I Have a Story to Tell

 I have a story to tell.  I have a story of God’s faithfulness experienced through betrayal.  I have a story of God’s provision learned in time of need.  I have a story of God’s comfort present in time of deepest sorrow.  
I have a story of God’s deliverance from destruction.  I have a story of His compassion in times of pain.  I have a story of miracles.  I have a child spared in a wreck that took the life of another.  I have a story of escape from an abuser.  I have a story of a job offer over the telephone days after major surgery.  I have a story of a move across the state perfectly timed and coordinated by the Master Planner.
I have a story of God’s promise to be father to the fatherless.  I have a story of God fulfilling His promise to be Provider and Sustainer to a single mom.  I have a story of His peace in the midst of chaos.  I have a story to tell of His strength made perfect in my weakness.  
 I want to share my stories with others who are walking where I have walked.  I want them to know of God’s faithfulness and His promises.  I want to share the hope He has so graciously given.  I want to write so that He may be glorified.

"I never knew you were a single mom," a woman told me as we walked across the church parking lot after a youth activity our teenagers were involved in. I considered her statement a compliment.  Her words implied to me that our family appeared normal. (What is normal anyway?) As a single parent, I often felt inadequate. I worried that my parenting efforts would glare like a flashing neon sign, "This mom is a screw-up." I was afraid that my mistakes would forever damage my children. In the midst of those worries I pleaded with God to help me. Over and over I relied on His promise to be father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5). The fact that this woman had known me for a couple of years and did not know I was a single parent suggested to me that He was keeping his promise. Thirty-two?

I miss this face. This little boy would be thirty-two years old today. It's been too long since I've seen him. It's been too long since I've seen that smile or heard that laugh. I wonder what grown-up Matthew would be like? I'm pretty sure the brown eyes would sill sparkle, and that crooked grin would still melt my heart. I'm pretty sure he would be protective of his sisters. What I don't know is what his teen-age and adult choices would have been. Were there some unpleasant consequences that he was spared from by being taken at the age of five? So many questions remain unanswered. What kind of young-man would he be? Kind-hearted? Most-likely. Generous? Probably so. Hard-headed? I'm pretty sure. Would his teenage and young adult years brought trouble? The hard answer is: probably so. An Easter Miracle

I watched my two little girls enjoying their baskets full of candy and bunnies.   We sat in the living room, me in pajamas, the girls in mismatched play clothes.   We tried to be quiet so we would not awaken the sleeping giant that was my husband and their father.   He had given strict instructions the night before that he was to be allowed to sleep.   When asked about the girls Easter baskets, he said, “Video tape it for me.   I want to sleep.”   I knew better than to ask about church.   Crossing him would bring yelling, cursing, and probably a beating.   It was best to let the giant sleep.      I knew in my heart this was not how Easter should be.   I knew in my heart this was not how life should be.   I had prayed for months that God would show me what to do.   If I was to stay things had to change.   If I was to get out it would take divine intervention.   Although I couldn’t see it, God was an...
